Wesley Chapel

Situated right in the heart of Whitby’s historic old town, we are delighted to present the fabulous Wesley Chapel. Dating back to the 1600’s this incredible property has had an extensive, no expense spared makeover.

Boasting panoramic views over the roof tops across the harbour and out to sea, your own hot tub in your sun facing garden as well as being immersed in the very centre of Whitby, this beautifully furnished cottage has it all.

You are in a wonderful, elevated position, giving you a birds eye view over the town, right over to the west cliffs opposite, with the iconic whale bone archway and the Captain Cook Monument, as well as harbour and sea views. Perfectly placed to watch the world pass by, you have the best view point in Whitby all to yourselves.

Wesley Chapel dates back to the 17th century and has had an extensive transformation, from a dilapidated uninhabitable old church, into the most incredible and luxurious holiday cottage. Situated just off the quaint cobbled Church Street, which has an abundance of independent shops and cafés. You are tucked away from the hustling crowds up a little peaceful yard, with stone steps leading you up to your private enclosed garden. In the garden you can enjoy the views, from the outdoor dining table whilst enjoying the BBQ or even from the hot tub.

Stepping inside Wesley Chapel has been renovated throughout to an exceptionally high standard. You enter into the modern kitchen, with fully integrated appliances. The dining room and lounge are open plan, with sumptuous leather sofas to unwind on in front of the TV and the built in feature electric fire, which illuminates the room on an evening with an inviting glow. Also on the ground floor you have the added convenience of a WC. Up on the first floor you have a beautifully presented twin bedroom, with a dressing table, wardrobe and a TV as well as an ensuite shower room. Up on the second floor you have the master king bedroom, here you have the most incredible views, with a bespoke window seat so that you can take time to soak up the scenery. The fabulous handmade wooden panelling is really eye catching and makes a dramatic statement, this room has been so thoughtfully created to make an exciting and memorable space, with the exposed original beams giving you a little glimpse of its rather humble beginnings. The master bedroom also has it’s own en suite shower, where you can start and end each day refreshed.

This area has so much heritage, it’s almost like stepping back in time. The history here is enthralling, from Vikings, smugglers, saints and voyagers. Wesley Chapel is an ideal choice for guests looking to have a fully immersive stay with everything on your doorstep.

Whitby has a host of attractions attracting guests from around the world. This town was inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and there is a dark side of Whitby with ghost walks to both fright and delight. The wonderful Goth Festival takes place twice a year, and keep an eye out for other festivals, such as the Folk Festival, Whitby Regatta and the Steam Punk Weekend. With many award-winning restaurants, olde worlde pubs and tea rooms, a colourful harbour and a glorious long golden beach, this is a great place for all interests and ages. The unspoilt fishing village of Staithes, 10 miles away, nestles into the cliffs of the Heritage Coast and is just one of the nearby hidden beaches to explore. Other hidden gems include Runswick Bay, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Robin Hood’s Bay, each has its own story of pirates and smuggling to tell. There are an abundance of walks and cycle tracks for ramblers and cyclists to take advantage of, including the Cleveland Way, as well as the Esk Valley and its stunning scenery, best enjoyed from the windows of the steam train that travels right into the heart of the North York Moors National Park from Whitby to Pickering. Other attractions for a day out include Flamingo Land, Dalby Forest as well as Alpamare waterpark and spa. The medieval walled city of York is just an hour away and is well worth a visit. This is a magnificent destination all year round, come see for yourself why so many visitors return year after year to Whitby.

Please note that due to Whitby being such a historical area, that car access is limited in the old town. The roads and side streets here were built long before cars. The nearest car park is around a 10 minute walk away, as the cottage is located off the cobbled Church Street and then up a flight of stone stairs.
